County Reconditioning Services

Warranty Information and Claim Procedure.

County Recon Services only provide the finest turbochargers built by the finest engineers. As each unit is assembled every individual part is thoroughly checked for defect or suspected fatigue. The turbochargers are then assembled and bench tested on state of the art balancing machines. During this process the turbo can spin at speeds of up to 150,000 RPM. It is highly unlikely that any defect in the build process would not become apparent at this point. Only when the turbocharger has passed these vigorous tests will the unit be signed off and despatched.

Under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 traders must sell goods that are as described and of satisfactory quality.

Fitting Procedure

Correct turbocharger fitment involves more than following the turbocharger fitting instructions that are specific and supplied with each turbocharger. When a turbocharger has failed the fault diagnosis does not stop there. Far more important is the reason for failure. Most turbochargers fail for a reason; the most popular cause of failure are oil related problems.

Other causes such as overboosting, overspeeding and foreign object impact damage are all common turbocharger failure causes. Any fault that will prejudice the operation of the turbocharger must be found and rectified before fitment of another turbocharger is carried out.

We will supply a check list with the turbocharger outling key fiiting procedures which must be read, carried out and individually signed for by the fitter as observed.

A turbocharger is not an independent device unlike other ancillary components on a vehicle, such as a power steering pump for example. It is an intrinsic part of the vehicle's power system. It shares with the engine it's oil supply, water supply, air intake supply, exhaust gas flow, engine management control, various pneumatic devices, ignition and fuel injection devices. Any and all of these have a crucial effect on the operation of the turbocharger. The culmination of these variables can result in a relatively complicated task in accurate turbocharger fault diagnosis. It is for this reason that sufficient time and understanding must be applied to turbocharger fault investigations.

1 - Remove absolutely all traces of contaminated oil, even the smallest particles of debris from the failed unit will immediately destroy the new turbocharger - this is a very common failure reason.

2 - Replace oil supply lines and fittings.  These lines often become plugged with decomposed oil which restricts oil flow and drainage.

3 - Make sure all openings to turbo are open and not plug or capped off.

4 - Shut off fuel or disable ignition and crank the engine for at least 15 seconds or until oil pressure is raised.

5 - Allow engine to fast idle (1,000 RPM) for 3 - 5 minutes to seat turbo seals.

6 - Always let engine idle for 3 - 5 minutes before shut down, otherwise the turbo will continue to spin without oil lubrication and pressure.

7 - When changing oil, be sure to prime oil filter.

8 - Do not used silicone or thread tape

Exchange Unit Return & Surcharges

The customer, if required as a term of the sale must notify the supplier within 10 working days that the exchange unit is suitably packaged for transport and ready for collection. The exchange unit must be complete, must be the same part number as the turbocharger supplied, must not be heavily damaged (accidental or deliberate) and must be generally fit for reconditioning. Any defects in the old unit should be notified before the sale and deemed by the supplier as acceptable. If the old unit is not acceptable then a surcharge of between £50.00 and £200.00 GBP will be applied. This amount will apply to the value of the old core unit to the supplier. If necessary this amount will be collected through a small claims court which would result in the customer also absorbing court costs.

Warranty Procedure

In the event of a warranty claim the buyer must notify us of the faulure immediately. We will then arrange to collect the unit from the seller at an address provided by the customer. The customer should package the turbocharger sufficently as to avoid further damage during transport back to the supplier.

On receipt of the damaged unit engineers will dismantle and inspect the turbocharger and determine the cause of failure. We will then notify the customer the results of the fault diagnosis.

If it is deemed that the turbocharger has not been fitted correctly or some modification has been carried out by the customer the turbocharger will not be covered under the warranty.

We offer a 12 months parts only warranty which does not cover any labour costs incurred by the customer for fitting or removal. No damages for distress, loss of earnings or costs incurred for independant advice are covered by the warranty.

Warranty does not cover any turbocharger supplied if it is modified in any way or fitted to any other vehicle than that which it was supplied for. Any alteration to the vehicles ECU system or chipping will void the warranty.

If the vehicle is sold the warranty does not pas to the new owner.

In the event that the turbocharger is at fault we will offer (in following order) a repair, replacement or refund.

We will repair the unit if the turbocharger is servicable and the necessary parts are available. If this is not possible we will replace the unit with another reconditioned or new turbocharger. If no replacement turbocharger is available then we will offer a full refund.

A similar document including much of the above will be sent with the turbocharger

THE FITTER MUST RETURN BY RECORDED DELIVERY THIS WARRANTY DOCUMENT SIGNED AND DATED TO ACTIVATE THE WARRANTY.

I have read the above and observed all of the advice on fitting procedures and warranty cover.
